AC Milan have been intrigued by the prospect of signing Alessandro Buongiorno and made several attempts during the January mercato. However, they were unsuccessful. As a result, they now could risk losing him to a rival.

In the winter mercato, Milan tried, tried, and tried again for the Torino star, but Urbano Cairo, the club’s president, refused to let the defender leave in January without a substantial bump on his price, which the Rossoneri would not pay.

The central defender was presented a contract by the Diavolo, and whilst nothing was signed, it was not a rejection of the club, but rather a rejection to go behind the back of the club he loves and captains.

This could come back to haunt Milan, though, with Corriere dello Sport (via SempreInter) reporting that Napoli are now attempting to beat the Rossoneri and Inter to the 24-year-old, with Aurelio De Laurentiis open to offering €40 million in the upcoming months, a fee that would have landed him in January.

Given Tottenham Hotspur have also joined the race for the youngster, the Diavolo must look to secure him soon, or they run the risk of being left red-faced about a player they were once in the driving seat for.
