There continues to be a lot of speculation regarding the future of Rafael Leao given that his contract is less than two years from expiry, but AC Milan could reportedly make an exception to eep him.

Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) reports this morning that Leao’s deal with Milan will expire in 2024 and in recent weeks there have been question marks over the likelihood that he will extend his stay with the Rossoneri.

The parties involved are working to find a meeting point because Leao has always declared that he is happy at the club who were patient in waiting for him to explode in the way that he did last season.

Milan seem willing to make an exception by increasing his salary beyond the ceiling set under the previous ownership Elliott Management. Leao is asking for a salary of around €7m net per season, and the fine due to Sporting CP must also be taken into consideration.

It will not be easy and the next few months will be crucial because Chelsea’s interest has not gone away, so the London club could return with an official offer of at least €100m even though the valuation set by Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara is his €150m clause.

Leao meanwhile is content at Milan and feels totally at ease at Milanello as mentioned. He holds the advice of Stefano Pioli and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in very high esteem, and they could potentially have some influence in persuading him to stay.
