Rafael Leao’s season has been another one with ups and downs, and this is perfectly demonstrated by his record in home versus away games.
Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) begin a report this morning by recalling that head coach Sergio Conceicao will have to do without Leao for the game against Bologna on Friday night, the dress rehearsal for the final in seven days.
The Portuguese was booked towards the end of the game – something Alessandro Costacurta even believed might be deliberate – and will have to serve a one-match suspension having reached the yellow card threshold.
That means another chance to score a home league goal has gone. In fact, Leao has not scored at San Siro in Serie A since Milan 3-3 Salernitana on 25 May 2024, the last game of last season. By skipping Milan-Bologna, he will have only one last chance against Monza to avoid going a whole season.
Away from home, however, Leao has proven to be lethal. He has scored eight goals in away games against Lazio, Cagliari (a brace), Como, Empoli, Bologna, Udinese and most recently Genoa. Is it a strange quirk, or something more?
Either way, at Milanello they hope that Leao can maintain this trend and also score in Rome in the Coppa Italia final, a game that the former Lille man will also arrive at rested.
