The Supercoppa Italiana format was confirmed by Lega Serie A, and it has reportedly upset one of the participants in Inter.
As Corriere della Sera (via MilanPress) recall, the league announced on Friday that the next edition of the competition will be played in Saudi Arabia with the four-team format, therefore exactly the same as the 2025 edition in which AC Milan emerged victorious.
The reasons for doing so are mostly financial given it is an event that will allow provide prize monies of approximately €23m. The qualification of Milan – the most popular club in the Middle East – through reaching the Coppa Italia final has dispelled any kind of doubt.
The Rossoneri will be protagonists together with Napoli, Inter and Bologna. The Nerazzurri have however raised the possibility of withdrawing from the Final Four due to too having too many games.
The lawyer Angelo Capellini had reiterated the desire to play in a one-off match because there is the possibility that in December the team will have to play the Intercontinental Cup if they win the Champions League this year.
A withdrawal of this type would lead to a sanction by the League, the paper adds. With the Club World Cup happening this summer, the Nerazzurri have a huge stack of games on their schedule over the next 12 months.
