There is a feeling of grievance about the fact Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been given a one-game ban after his red card against Parma, a report claims.

As il Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) reports this morning, the Milan striker was suspended for just one round “for having, on the 15th minute of the second half, uttered a disrespectful criticism of the referee” – plus a fine of €5,000.

Despite the fact that the management remain convinced that Ibra has not offended Maresca, the ban is not available for appeal and therefore the 39-year-old will be forced to miss Sunday’s match against Genoa at San Siro. The Sports Judge could also have given a harsher sentence, but two games or more would have allowed Milan to appeal with the evidence they have.

The paper mentions that there is no mention of “provocative attitude” and “disrespectful criticism” towards the referees in the rule book, but only of “abusive or disrespectful conduct in against match officials”. The hierarchy remain convinced that they have suffered a rather anomalous decision.
