Sunderland travel to Wembley tomorrow for their play-off final against Wycombe Wanderers, where both teams will be hoping to gain promotion to the Championship.

The Black Cats overcame Sheffield Wednesday across two legs of the play-offs to make it to Wembley and now they will be hoping to end their misery under the arch in the play-offs.

Furthermore, the last time Wycombe went up they achieved it through the play-offs with a number of the squad players they have now.

Therefore, Corry Evans knows the pressure that is upon him and his team going into this match, as he told the club’s Official Media: “I’ve been a few times recently, I was there last year watching my brother [Johnny Evans] play in the FA Cup final, never played but it’s one I’m excited about and one to tick off the list.

“Promotion was the aim at the start of the year. We didn’t get over the line in terms of automatics so the next best thing is the play-offs. When I was given the captaincy it was my aim to get the club promoted when I joined.

“It would be a great moment for myself to get us promoted. I remember the promotion all those years ago [under Roy Keane].

“We’re all really looking forward to it. Training the last couple of days have been really sharp and teeing us up nicely for the weekend.

“Both [the physical and mental break] has been well received. We put a lot of effort into the two legs and it’s nice to get a little break physically and mentally. We had a few bumps, knocks and scrapes but we’re all back in training now ready to go.”

The Verdict:

Sunderland will be hoping to change their play-off fate this season and achieve promotion back to the Championship, but it won’t be an easy task against a Wycombe team that is hard to play against.

However, as Evans has pointed out, they have had the little break and been able to prepare for the game which they will be hoping to have done effectively.

There will be a lot of pressure upon the Black Cats as this has been their goal all season and they already missed out on the automatic promotion spots, but if they can keep their nerve under the pressure of the occasion, they will be hoping they can get the job done.
