Corinthians ended their Copa Sudamericana campaign on a high after a 4-0 victory over Paraguayan side River Plate-PAR on Wednesday at the Neo Química Arena.

Already eliminated, Timão played without most of their first team players against a side they were expected to dominate in the first place. Ramiro bagged a brace while Jô and Mateus Vital also got on the score-sheet. There was a luxury spectator in the stands as newly appointed coach Sylvinho watched the games from the stands.

It was perhaps poetic to see Ramiro Serdan bag two goals on a night where it could potentially be his last for the club. Corinthians have already agreed a loan move that would see the forward join Dubai-based side Al Wasl in July.

“Obviously, we didn’t want to leave the competition at this stage, we know that we left something to be desired, but we have to honor the club’s shirt. It was with that spirit that we entered. I’m happy (for the goals), I’m playing more forward, but the important thing is to praise the collective work. The people at the back are extremely important. We are happy, but we have to congratulate the team, which is the main one “.

Speaking on his future at the club, Ramiro added: “We leave it a little longer, it is not for now, I have a contract with the club, I will try my best to help the team.”

Elsewhere, fellow Brazilian side Bahia also bowed out of the competition after suffering a 4-2 defeat to Montevideo City Torque on the same today. A third place finish in their group was not enough to see them advance.

Corinthians will now switch their focus to the Brazilian Championship where they take on Atlético-GO on Sunday for the first game of their season. On Wednesday, they will also take on the same opponents in the third stage of the Brazilian Cup.
