Corinthians are very excited about the possibility of signing Guarani striker Matheus Davó.

According to Brazilian outlet UOL, the Corinthians board internally rate Davó’s potential and current attributes to those of former Palmeiras and current Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus.

The comparison is becoming quite popular in Brazilian circles, with Guarani officials and several agents throughout the country drawing the same conclusions.

Davó is considered a modern centre-forward: a very mobile and versatile player that doesn’t like to be restricted to one position. He is known to be able to play and shift everywhere in the front four of a 4-2-3-1 formation.

The 20-year-old is a strong athlete who can enjoy great bursts of speed and be a clinical finisher. At Copinha 2019, Davó scored six goals in 10 games for Guarani, including four goals in a single match against Internacional, helping guide his side to the semi-finals.

There are two conditions Corinthians must be willing to accept if they want to sign Davó: Guarani want to keep the player for the 2020 Campeonato Paulista, and Guarani want to prohibit Corinthians from loaning Davó out to rivals Ponte Preta for the next three years.

Corinthians and Ponte Preta negotiated eight deals in 2019, the most recent being Chilean midfielder Ángelo Araos.

Currently, Guarani owns 60% of the player’s rights, with Elenko Sports, an agency Corinthians have a good relationship with, owning the other 40%.
