The hosts created the first chance of the game as Marinho met a free-kick with a powerful header, however, the 32-year-old’s effort was too central as Cássio Ramos kept the score level.

Corinthians would come close twice in quick succession but were denied through some excellent goalkeeping by Hugo Souza before Ayrton Lucas tested Cássio just before the half-hour mark with a tame effort.

The breakthrough came on the stroke of halftime as Du Queiroz, unmarked in the penalty area placed his effort into the bottom corner and beyond Souza.

Their lead didn’t last long though as Flamengo hit back almost immediately after the restart. Everton Ribeiro found Matheus França on the edge of the penalty area as the youngster deftly lifted the ball over Cássio to draw the hosts level.

With fifteen minutes left on the clock, Corinthians would find their winning goal. Yuri Alberto, who had been denied by an excellent Souza save early in the match, wasn’t to be kept out again.

The 21-year-old collected the ball from well outside the area before striding forward and unleashing a powerful shot straight down the mouth of goal and beyond Souza.

This result keeps Corinthians in fifth place but draws them level on points with Flamengo in third place.
