Copa del Rey semifinal matches are confirmed | OneFootball

The semi-finals of the Copa del Rey are already looming on the horizon and this Wednesday the draw was held for the tie that would decide the fate of four teams: Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid and Real Sociedad, who are the four qualifiers after an intense round of quarter-finals.

The road to the Copa semifinals

One of the four best teams in the competition is Real Madrid who qualified at Butarque. The Real Madrid of epic proportions did it again, just as they did on Tuesday in the Champions League against Manchester City. With the score at 2-2, the Whites had all sorts of chances, Vinicius in particular was looking for a goal, but it wasn’t until the last gasp that reserve player Gonzalo popped up to take them through to the Copa semifinals.

Real Madrid’s path in the Cup has become more complicated with each round. In the knockout stages, the Whites eliminated Deportiva Minera (0-5) in the round of 32; Celta de Vigo (5-2) in the round of 16 at the Bernabéu with extra time and controversy included; and, as we said, Leganés (2-3) in the quarterfinals.

Atlético de Madrid, Real Sociedad and Barcelona are Ancelotti’s possible rivals in the next round. It could be El Clásico, which was already played in the same round, the semifinals, two seasons ago, it could be that the Whites take revenge on Atleti, who eliminated them last time around, or it could be the Txuriurdin team that Madrid have not faced in the knockout tournament since 2013.

Atlético de Madrid are in the semi-finals after a convincing 5-0 win over Getafe with two goals from Giuliano Simeone, another from Samuel Lino, another from Ángel Correa and another from Alexander Sorloth, advancing to the semi-finals which last year were their limit.

For its part, Barcelona has demonstrated immense superiority in this competition, reaching the semifinals on the back of thrashings. In the quarterfinals, they thrashed an insignificant Valencia who did not learn the lesson of the 7-1 they received in Montjuïc a few weeks ago and fell 0-5. The Azulgrana team will complete the Copa semifinals after destroying their rival in half an hour.

Real Sociedad did the same against Osasuna. La Real put in their best performance and won 2-0 to reach the semifinals of the Copa del Rey. A first half played with intensity, impetus and accuracy, with goals from Barrene and Brais, has taken the Real to the next round, just what they needed.

What does the draw look like?

The pairings for the Copa del Rey semifinals were revealed in a draw held this Wednesday, February 12th, at 1:00 p.m. at the RFEF headquarters in Las Rozas.

The Copa matches

The draw decided that the semi-final ties, to be played as a two-legged tie, would be as follows:

Barça vs Atleti and Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid

In other words, FC Barcelona and Real Sociedad will play the first leg at home, which will be played at the end of February.

When will the matches be played?

The semi-finals are the only ties in the Copa to be played as a two-legged tie. The first legs will be played between February 25th and 27th and the return legs will be played from April 1st to 3rd, after the next international break. The order of the grounds will be decided by the order in which each team’s ball is drawn in the draw.

The final, which will decide who succeeds Athletic as winners, is scheduled for Saturday, April 26th.
