Chile 0-2 Paraguay

Scorers: Samudio 33′, Almirón 58′ (P)

For Thursday night’s late match, Paraguay beat Chile 2-0 at the Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha.

It was a match made in the midfield with both sides fighting for possession but Paraguay played with an extra edge compared to Chile.

The difference in style and aggression resulted in the opening goal when Braian Samudio’s bullet header beat Claudio Bravo to make it 1-0 for Paraguay.

After the break, the frustration continued for Chile as a foul in the box allowed Miguel Almirón to double the lead from the spot.

Minutes later at the other end of the pitch, Chile appealed for a penalty but VAR denied them a lifeline.

Deep in stoppage time, Paraguay’s celebrations were cut short as they finished the match with 10-men after Antonio Bareiro was stretchered off with what looked to be a serious injury.

With the result, Paraguay sit second and Chile sit third.

Bolivia 0-2 Uruguay

Scorers: Lampe 40′ (OG); Cavani 79′

Earlier in the night at the Arena Pantanal, Uruguay beat Bolivia 2-0 to earn their first win of the tournament.

Star forwards Edinson Cavani and Luis Suárez led Uruguay’s attack but each saw great opportunities to open the scoring go wasted.

Bolivia’s backline managed to keep the match goalless for most of the first half until Uruguay’s pressure eventually cracked them.

Giorgian De Arrascaeta fizzed a shot across the box towards a lurking Cavani and Suárez but defender Jairo Quinteros turned it off of goalkeeper Carlos Lampe and into his own net.

After the break, Uruguay pushed to double their lead but scoring woes continued with Cavani, Suárez, Rodrigo Bentancur and Facundo Torres missing chances.

Eventually, the predatory skills of the Manchester United forward made it 2-0 to secure all three points.

With the result, Uruguay sit fourth while Bolivia sit last.

Group stage action for Group A concludes on Monday with Uruguay v Paraguay and Bolivia v Argentina.
