In Group B of this year’s Copa América, Paraguay faced off against Bolivia and Brazil played against Venezuela.

Paraguay took no prisoners and scored four goals to kickstart their campaign in style. While Brazil weren’t that prolific, they managed to get a structured 2-0 win over La Vinotinto. Let’s dive deeper into the games.

Copa América 2025: Brazil secure 2-0 victory

Brazil were the favourites going into this game, but that wasn’t clear from the first actions. Venezuela seized opportunity in transition two times and both of the shots were just wide of the goal by Castellanos and Gaby Garcia. Brazil were warned.

That warning did a lot, because in the 33rd minute, Brazil converted possession into a goal. Amanda Gutierres was there for the tap in and make it 1-0. Brazil doubled the score just minutes later through Garbelini to secure a solid 2-0 win.

That was also the result in the game, but it could have been different. Venezuela had more shots (12) throughout the game, but Brazil (9 shots) were just more clinical and had more luck in the end.

When the first whistle sounded, everyone knew this wasn’t going to be an even match-up. It was Claudia Martínez Ovando’s day, because she was everywhere on the left flank. She managed to push through and cause real issues for the Bolivian defence.

She scored in the 23rd, 40th, and 61st minutes of the game. After that, Lice Chamorro closed the deal to make it 4-0 to Paraguay.

The difference in quality was clear from the start and the clinical striking abilities of Paraguay were inevitable. Bolivia had nine shots towards goal but 22 percent of them were on target. Paraguay had 18 shots, of which 44.44% were on target. But, as we already saw, they were clinical enough and converted four into goals during this game.
