Copa America 2024 draw: Argentina to face Chile, Brazil and USMNT discover their groups | OneFootball

The draw for the Copa America 2024 has seen defending champions Argentina pitched against Chile and Peru in Group A.

The 48th edition of the prestigious South American tournament will be contested by 16 teams in the United States next summer – 10 nations from CONMEBOL and six from CONCACAF.

Argentina – who also lifted the 2022 World Cup – will begin their title defence against the winner of the play-off tie between Canada and Trinidad & Tobago.

Uruguay, who are tied with La Albiceleste for the most title wins, have been drawn alongside the US, Panama and Bolivia in Group C.

They have been in imperious form under Marcelo Bielsa in the lead-up to the tournament, defeating Argentina and Brazil to prove they are genuine contenders for the title.

Brazil have been placed in Group D with Colombia and Paraguay, and the final spot will be taken by the winners of the play-offs between Costa Rica and Honduras.

Group B features Mexico, Ecuador, Venezuela and Jamaica.

The tournament will be played in 14 cities and stadiums, with the curtain raiser between Argentina and Canada or Trinidad & Tobago to be played at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

Lionel Messi will be aiming for one more feather to his hat after inspiring La Albiceleste to the previous editions of Copa America and World Cup while also recently winning the 2023 Ballon d’Or award.

The Inter Miami star will be eager to round off his illustrious international career on a high note, with the 2026 World Cup unlikely to be on his agenda.
