There hasn’t been a north London derby with as much riding on it as tonight’s clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.
A win for the Gunners will mean they will finish in the top four of the Premier League and qualify for the Champions League with Spurs missing out.
Thankfully for Antonio Conte’s side, they have been the beneficiaries of two potentially controversial decision from referee Paul Tierney.
First, he awarded Spurs a penalty after Arsenal defender Cédric Soares appeared to nudge Son Heung-min in the back to send the South Korean forward to the ground inside the box.
Harry Kane dispatched from the spot despite remonstrations from the Gunners players.
Things got worse for Mikel Arteta when Rob Holding was then sent off in the 33rd minute for a second bookable offence after blocking the run of Son as he tried to get past the Arsenal defender.
Whether Tierney came to the right decisions or not is up for debate but it could prove crucial in the layout of the Premier League top four come the end of the season.
