Ukraine’s dream of contesting the World Cup is in danger of ending in disappointment.
Trailing 1-0 in their play-off final against Wales in Cardiff due to Andriy Yarmolenko’s own goal, it was he who offered them a way back into things shortly afterwards.
Pouncing upon a slack touch by Joe Allen in the area before the Welshman cleared, he got to the ball quickly and was then kicked from behind as the midfielder attempted to clear.
A VAR check was made on the potential infringement but referee Mateu Lahoz was not asked to consult his screen.
On closer inspection, it certainly seemed that Ukraine were very hard done by.
