Quantuma, Derby County’s administrators, have claimed that their legal advisers remain in dialogue with Lech Poznan over the outstanding sum owed to the Polish club for the transfer of Kamil Jozwiak.

Derby sold Jozwiak to MLS club Charlotte FC last week but reports have emerged since revealing that the Pride Park outfit still owe around £2.5 million as part of the deal that saw the Polish winger arrive in September 2020.

The Athletic has reported that Lech Poznan rejected the Rams’ request to defer the next installment of the payments in January, which is said to have been the only communication from Derby or the administrators despite numerous attempts from the Ekstraklasa club.

However, Quantuma released a statement that denied the claims about a lack of communication.

On the topic of the issue, they said: “Contrary to recent press articles, our legal advisers have been and remain in dialogue with Lech Poznan officials and their advisers.

“We recognise there is a sum outstanding.”

It is understood that the Rams have paid just 25% of the €4 million (£3.4m) fee paid for Jozwiak in 2020 and that Lech Poznan will continue to pursue that full amount.

The 23-year-old made 61 appearances for Derby in total, scoring once and adding four assists.

The Verdict

This is a concerning update from a Derby perspective.

The Athletic’s report included direct comments from Lech Poznan president Piotr Rutkowski but it seems the administrators’ depiction of how things have played out so far are different.

That’s worrying but it does at least seem that while the Rams are in administration Lech Poznan’s pursuit of the money via a FIFA tribunal is frozen.

Even so, it’s yet another issue going on at Pride Park and more noise when the full focus should be on the relegation battle.
