In a shocking deadline day twist, Union Berlin have released a statement confirming that they will not be completing the signing of Isco.

The Spanish midfielder was set to join Union on a free transfer, and everything was in place for his departure to the Bundesliga side aiming to close down the one-point gap between them and league leaders Bayern Munich.

Journalist Matteo Moretto reports via Relevo what it was that caused the collapse of the deal. The two parties had come to an agreement, and Isco was even in Berlin on Tuesday morning to complete his routine medical. However, the German club began changing some of the conditions of the contract, including the Spaniard being left out of the Europa League squad because the list of registered players for European competitions was already full.

The modifications of the agreement tested Isco’s patience, and he began to suspect that Union Berlin had needed to offload a player to make space for him.

The ex-Real Madrid midfielder has been a free agent since an argument with Sevilla’s directors led to the termination of his contract in December.
