Manchester City have completed the signing of left-back Sergio Gómez from Anderlecht.

The 21-year-old Spaniard joins in a deal worth a reported €13m plus add-ons, and he has signed a four-year contract at the Etihad Stadium.

He will wear the number 21 shirt previously worn by his compatriots David Silva and Ferran Torres.

“City are the best team in England and in Pep Guardiola I have a chance to learn and develop under the most outstanding manager in world football,” Gómez told the club’s official website.

A former Barcelona youth product, Gómez started out as an attack-minded midfielder before being used at left-back after moving to Borussia Dortmund in 2018.

He then spent two years on load at SD Huesca before moving Anderlecht in the summer of 2021, where he played under City legend Vincent Kompany.

There was originally talk that Gómez would join City before spending the rest of the season on loan, but Pep Guardiola confirmed in his pre-Bournemouth press conference last week that the player will remain with the first-team and compete with João Cancelo for the left-back spot.

“I like when players come here that it’s a dream because they give everything for us,” said Guardiola.

“He’s so young, open to learn. I spoke with Vinny about him. He has to improve in some departments, that’s why he’s 21 and he’s going to improve. But he’s perfect for what he need.”
