Speaking exclusively in Thursday’s print edition of Kicker, RB Leipzig head coach Domenico Tedesco discussed his contract situation at the DFB Pokal champions. His current deal expires in 2023.

“The club approached me with the issue and everyone knows that I feel good. Nevertheless, I asked for the topic to be pushed back a little. I believe and hope that the club understands that.”

Why the decision to push talks back and how long?

“There are more important issues right now than me personally. We can talk in November or December, during the World Cup break. I had a bad experience at Schalke when I extended in pre-season after a very good first year then we didn’t start the season well. I don’t want to call evil spirits or sound superstitious but we now have important preparations, an open transfer window and an early start to the season with the Supercup against Bayern Munich. That’s what we want to focus on.”
