Chelsea came from behind to win 4-2 away to Manchester City to reach the FA Women’s Continental League Cup semi-finals.

Chelsea opened the scoring just before the break, the hosts failing to deal with an Erin Cuthbert free kick and Melanie Leupolz latching onto the loose ball to fire home, despite the efforts of Steph Houghton on the line.

The lead was surrendered too easily early in the second half however, as Magda Eriksson was unable to control Ann-Katrin Berger’s throw out, allowing Chloe Kelly to score from a tight angle.

A dramatic last five minutes of normal time saw Lauren Hemp do well to control the ball and finish to put City ahead, only for substitute Niamh Charles to score even more impressively for Chelsea.

The holders were back in front in extra-time when Pernille Harder’s drive was parried by Karen Bardsley but cleverly guided home by Guro Reiten.

The visitors gained a two-goal cushion as City did not clear a corner, Reiten laying the ball off for Sophie Ingle to thump home from 25 yards.

Emma Hayes’ side will now host the winners of Thursday’s clash between West Ham and Durham in the semi-finals early next month.
