Arsenal got their Continental Cup campaign off to a strong start, coming away with three points from a 3-1 win against Bristol City at Meadow Park.

There was danger for opponents Bristol City in the first two minutes of the game, with promising chances from both Beth Mead and Stina Blackstenius. However, both opportunities were deemed offside. But after a powerful strike from Frida Maanum, Arsenal found themselves 1-0 up in the 27th minute.

Although Arsenal were dominant from the start, Bristol showed promise and determination in their play, making for a tense match.

Wubben-Moy shines for Arsenal

Coming up from the defensive line for Katie McCabe’s corner in the 36th minute, Lotte Wubben-Moy headed the ball onto the far post and into the goal, resulting in an impressive 2-0 lead for the Gunners within the first half. The goal was the defender’s first of the season and her performance against the Vixens won our standout performer vote.

Bristol City had a chance just before the half-time whistle but were stopped by pressures from Wubben-Moy just outside of the penalty box. This defensive redirection allowed Maanum to attempt to strike the ball into the top right corner, almost upping Arsenal’s 2-0 lead before closing the first half.

Wubben-Moy’s defensive blocking stole the show, making every step harder for Bristol. Her tactical movements and forward thinking made a huge impact on Arsenal’s play and overall performance. Using the space well, Wubben-Moy influenced the game from long balls to the right, creating goal-scoring opportunities throughout the 90 minutes.

The Lioness stood out from the crowd after an astounding performance in defence and during her attack further up the pitch in the box. She proved her diversity within the team and showcased the impact she has had on their performances.

Arsenal now stand at third in Group D with their next Conti Cup game against Southampton on the 23rd November at St Mary’s Stadium. Before that, they will need to take on Leicester City and Brighton in the Women’s Super League.
