There were a handful of Women’s League Cup (Conti Cup) fixtures on the docket today as the group stage gets underway. Here is what went down across the grounds.


Tottenham vs Reading

Tottenham thrashed Reading by a staggering score of 6-0 to take early command of Group D.

It was almost over before it started for Reading, as Spurs took a 2-0 lead inside 20 minutes after goals from Zhang Linyan and Kit Graham.

But the home side ran away with the affair in the second half, scoring quickly after the restart through Asmita Ale before firing home three strikes in sixteen minutes to cap off an emphatic, dominant win to kick off their FA Women’s League Cup campaign.

With a draw elsewhere in the group, Spurs are off to a flying start.


West Ham vs Charlton

Scorers: Harries 58′, Atkinson. 78′ ; Humphries 20′

West Ham’s start to life in Group E was off to a rocky start when Charlton snatched a shock lead through Carla Humphrey in the opening 20 minutes.

But the Hammers remained within touching distance of their visitors until the second half when they struck to reclaim parity thanks to an Emma Harries tally.

West Ham completed their turnaround in the final 15 minutes when Isibeal Atkinson came off the bench to fire the home side into the lead and snatch all three points in the process.


Everton vs Manchester City

Scorers: Duggan 90+3′ ; Park 21′, Shaw 47′

Manchester City cruised past Everton to kick off their cup campaign with an impressive win in Group B.

City got off to the start they were looking for when Jessica Park fired the visitors into the lead just past the 20th minute mark.

The away side doubled their advantage almost immediately from the second half restart, quelling any hope of Everton momentum. To nobody’s surprise, Bunny Shaw snatched her first big chance of the game to put the Cityzens two up.

Everton almost managed a fightback as Toni Duggan came off the bench to cut the lead in half in stoppage time, but it was not enough to stop the visitors from collecting the three points.


Leicester City vs Liverpool

Scorers: Palmer 34′ , Cain 50′; Flint 45+3′

The first half appeared to be heading towards its conclusion with neither side really getting a sniff of goal, but an Aimee Palmer strike in past the half-hour mark snatched the lead for Leicester.

Palmer’s tally was answered swiftly however, as Natasha Flint pulled Liverpool level with nearly the last kick of the half.

With the floodgates now open, Leicester regained their advantage only five minutes after the restart thanks to Hannah Cain.

The scoring would end there however, as Leicester held on in the face of a late Liverpool push, securing the points to take join Manchester City at the top of Group B.
