Conte reflects on title win: “I’ve outdone myself in these two years at Inter.” | OneFootball

Speaking after his Inter side’s emphatic 5-1 win over Sampdoria, Antonio Conte reflected on the title win, wrapped up last week with four games to go. Speaking to Sky Sport, the manager spoke about the Scudetto from his own perspective, emphasising the effort that went into the achievement, but remained tight-lipped on his future.

The Nerazzurri comfortably dispatched Ranieri’s men, with Gagliardini opening the scoring early on after the hosts were given a guard of honour. A double from Alexis Sánchez and later goals from Andrea Pinamonti and Lautaro Martínez then sealed the win, with the visitors only responding through Keita Baldé.

“It’s a great satisfaction, for me and for the players, and for all who have contributed to all of this. We haven’t forgotten that Inter hadn’t won the title for 11 years, which is too long. The last game we had won was against Sampdoria, from then on we picked up 16 wins and 3 draws, we’ve achieved something incredible and the boys keep delivering.”

“I’m not here to talk about the future,  but about the present. We have to savour this Scudetto, because we know how much we’ve worked hard and suffered [for it]; the ending is what’s remembered, but behind it there’s a lot of suffering. In the space of two years, we’ve given the club and its environment credibility again. In the past I didn’t relish certain moments, this time however, I want to savour them.”

“I’ve done well to not give in one bit, I think I’ve outdone myself in these two years at Inter. I’ve had to give my all, it wasn’t the greatest achievement but it was the most difficult.”

“This is a young team, it still has room to improve, including in terms of mentality. Now these players are winners, we haven’t ever let up since we took the lead in the table, and this is the right mentality, winning has to be in your head. It has to become an obsession, a drug for those who want to be winners.”
