On squad updates

“Today is Friday and for sure after the game against Leicester we are trying to manage a couple of situations, fresh injuries. We have tomorrow to make the right decision about a couple of our players.

“Eric Dier had a good training session for us and is available. Son Heung-min, not yet. We have to wait. He’s coming along well but we have to wait until after the international break.”

On transfers

“Honestly I prefer to speak about this topic always with the club.

“For sure I made an evaluation about the squad but I have spoken to the club and I hope the club listens to me”

On subbing off Emerson

“About Emerson, [it] must be very clear that he started the game with a physical problem and I can only thank him for his availability.

“He was suffering a lot in the first half. He is only 22-years-old.”

On Hugo Lloris

“It’s important that our captain is not only here for one year, but two years.

“He’s a point of reference for the whole club and also a point of reference for me. He’s an important goalkeeper.”

On helping Lloris win a club trophy

“I think it is important for every club to win trophies and at the same time, you have to understand if you are ready to win.

“Every club could say they want to win trophies but you have to understand what is your point, where you are and the path you have to follow to try and be competitive.

“It is too simple to say you want to win. One team wins and the others don’t. If you win you write history and if you don’t win you don’t win.”

On the best formation

“I think that many times in these two months I faced different situations, especially for injuries …We started to play with two strikers because I think we have important strikers and when you try to build something you do it around the best players in your squad.

“When all the players are available a lot of time we started with three strikers. Then [Son] has had an injury and for this reason, I didn’t have the possibility to continue this way. In this type of situation, you have to try and find another solution. Maybe it will be possible to change again.

“The important thing [is] the players know very well which are our principles and try to put this on the pitch with the system we decide to play.”
