Conte gives go-ahead to Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of Besiktas full-back Rivdan Yilmaz

According to Turkish outlet Fanatik (h/t football.london), Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a move for Besiktas full-back Ridvan Yilmaz. Antonio Conte has given his approval and Spurs are looking to add the left-back to the squad.

The North London side currently has the likes of Sergio Reguilon and Ryan Sessegnon fighting for a place in the team for the left-wing-back role. However, it’s yet to be seen how the Italian manager fits in the new signings Tottenham have made this summer.

Reguilon is a player Tottenham signed in 2020 after the now 25-year-old showed promise by performing well in a successful Sevilla side. The Spaniard has since been a constant fixture in the squad.

But last season under Conte, there were doubts about the player’s place in the starting XI and it seems the Italian prefered other options over him. Still, Reguilon is one of the better full-backs to have in a team and Tottenham will be smart to keep him in the squad.

Sessegnon was signed in 2019 as the player was one of the best prospects in English football. He did not see many opportunities in his first season and the 22-year-old was sent out on loan to Hoffenheim in the 2021/22 season and played an important role in the Bundesliga side.

Last season, especially since the Italian manager was appointed in November, Sessegnon has seen his fair share of game time and impressed at the left wing-back spot in Reguilon’s absence.

Yilmaz one for the future

The youngster played an important role in the side at the end of the season and helped achieve the objective of being in the top four in the Premier League. Injuries kept the 22-year-old out of the team on occasions, but he managed to appear in 22 games for Tottenham.

Yilmaz is a 21-year-old left-back who plays for Besiktas in the Super Lig. The youngster appeared 33 times for the Black Eagles across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing four assists.

It remains to be seen what happens if the North London side signs the youngster. Fans will feel it’ll be hard for Yilmaz to get into the side. It seems the signing is one for the future rather than a first-team addition to the squad.

But if Conte wants the man, it is best for our board to trust him in that regard. If Reguilon and Sessegnon stay, with Ben Davies also available, Yilmaz isn’t a signing we need urgently but one we can surely use in the coming years.
