Recent weeks have showcased a Barcelona side that is not willing to back down so easily. Despite all the skepticism surrounding the team’s progression, Hansi Flick’s men have responded positively. January, across all competitions, ended as a memorable month for Barcelona given that they remained undefeated throughout.
Beyond just winning the Spanish Super Cup after thrashing Real Madrid in the final, the team also recovered some pace in La Liga and are still alive in both the UEFA Champions League and the Copa del Rey. However, a key positive for the team is undoubtedly some player renewals and the resurgence of key players as well.
One certain defender in particular, however, seems to be getting more and more accustomed to Hansi Flick’s high-line tactics. Despite being injured for much of the opening half of the season, Ronald Araujo is now well and truly back and his improving performances are proof of that.
However, the player has recently revealed that he had been working on adapting to these rather risky tactics even before he made his return to the pitch from his injury. As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, he shared some details about how the coaches were always there to accelerate his adaptation to the high-line:
“I’m happy to be back, to be with the team, and to play again after such a long time. We had already been working on it before my return, constantly watching videos with the staff. It’s true that it’s a slightly risky style, but in the end, it’s what brings us results, and we believe in it.”
“I’m feeling good. With every game, I’m gaining more rhythm, and that’s important. I hope to keep playing and helping the team.”
With a new contract until 2031, Araujo’s future with Barcelona seems to be secure enough for the club to finally breathe a sigh of relief. Despite the stories suggesting that he could be on his way to Juventus, the Uruguayan has instead committed himself to the club and has even stated that it was his wish all along.
