According to a report from The Athletic, a consortium that includes NBA star Jimmy Butler is expected to make an offer for Eagle Football’s 43% stake in Crystal Palace. The outlet writes that if the offer is accepted, it would value Palace at $465 million.
Eagle Football, which is controlled by John Textor, also has stakes in Olympique Lyonnais, Botafogo, and Daring Brussels (formerly RWD Molenbeek). A situation which has caused some tension after Lyon and Palace both qualified for the Europa League this season. Lyon via their league placement, and Palace after they won the FA Cup for the first time in their 164-year history.
As both teams are owned in part by Eagle Football, UEFA’s multi-club rules come into effect, which puts Palace’s position in next year’s competition in jeopardy, as when there is a clash, qualification goes automatically to the team that finished higher in their respective league.
