Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has said he was a tad fortunate to score his side's winner at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Blues fell behind to an Odsonne Edouard strike before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang found a superb equaliser - his first goal since joining the Blues from Barcelona - to set up a tense finish at Selhurst Park.

With seconds to go in regulation time, former Palace midfielder Gallagher pulled a stunning winner from out of nowhere, finding the top corner from 25 yards and looking rather sheepish to earn his current side the three points.

Speaking post-match, Gallagher, who started the game on the bench, admitted he was a bit lucky to have found the back of the net from that distance having not realised former teammate Jean-Philippe Mateta was in his way.

"I got a bit jammy, to be honest!" Gallagher told the cameras.

"I got a bit jammy because it went through I think JP and it might have gone past him. I didn't mean to, I didn't even know he was there!

"So thankfully it went through him, I got a yard [of space] and I thought 'I'm shooting here'. And as soon as it left my foot, I was thinking it's got a chance. I'm just buzzing it went in."

He added: "[It was] crazy, to be honest. Of course I was dying to get on the pitch. I felt like I could have helped the team win the game. Thankfully I got the chance to get a shot off and it went in, which...it had to come against Crystal Palace.

"I loved my time here and the fans have been brilliant. They were clapping me after the game after I'd just scored [against them] and it's just unreal. I'm so thankful for how they treated me when I was here and even now.

"I'm buzzing with the three points and buzzing to have got my first goal for . Hopefully it's time to kick on from here."
