With the Bundesliga season over, Borussia Dortmund are hoping to seal a deal for Julian Brandt this week.

The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder has shone in the second half of the season, ending the campaign with seven goals and 11 assists in the Bundesliga.

His performances have helped Bayer Leverkusen to a Champions League place. That, according to Bild, will not be enough to keep him at the BayArena.

The German newspaper reported on Sunday evening that a move to Dortmund is all but sealed. There is a release clause worth a reported €28m in Brandt’s contract, leaving Leverkusen powerless to stop a move.

Those claims were backed up by kicker, who called it “very probable” that Brandt will turn down interest from England to sign for the Black and Yellows.

However, kicker go on to report that Brandt’s father has started telling interested parties that his son will not move to them, with Leverkusen ready to communicate that he will stay with the club.

Curious.

Leverkusen managing director of sport Rudi Völler didn’t clear up the situation when he spoke to Sky on Sunday morning.

“I assume that there will be a decision in the next five, six, seven days,” Völler expressed.

“I know which clubs have spoken to him and where he won’t end up. We’re simply waiting and we are optimistic. I think it’s fifty-fifty.”

Hopefully, for all involved, this really is settled within the next week.
