West Brom have confirmed that Jed Wallace is set to be absent for a number of weeks in a fresh blow to Tony Mowbray’s side.

The club have released a statement on their official website announcing that the playmaker will be out for several weeks.

The 30-year-old had to be substituted off in the 70th minute against his former side Millwall last weekend after sustaining a calf issue.

Wallace was making his first start in two weeks after being a substitute in their fixtures with Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers.

West Brom have confirmed that Wallace’s issue will see him miss several weeks, with no immediate time frame given for a potential return.

The club are hopeful that he will be back in time for the run-in, perhaps opening the door for a comeback in late March or early April.

This development has come as a blow to Mowbray’s side, who are competing for a top six finish in the Championship this season.

“Albion skipper Jed Wallace will be out for several weeks after picking up a calf strain during the 1-1 draw at Millwall on Saturday,” wrote the club in a statement.

“Jed will now enter a period of rehabilitation and will target a return to action for the Baggies’ run-in.

“Everyone at the club wishes Jed a speedy recovery.”

Wallace has made 27 appearances in the league so far this season, but has only started on six occasions, contributing one goal and one assist.

West Brom league position

West Brom are currently sixth in the Championship table, one point ahead of seventh place Coventry City.

The Baggies are looking to secure a top six finish once again this year, having come fifth in the previous campaign.

Mowbray has been in charge since January, replacing Carlos Corberan after his move to Valencia.

Next up for Albion is a clash at home to Oxford United on 22 February.

Wallace injury is a blow for West Brom

Wallace has had an inconsistent season so far, but there is no doubting the potential that he possesses for a side chasing a top six finish.

Mowbray will be disappointed to lose him, especially as he had been performing well against his old side on Saturday before being forced off.

The manager will be hoping for a swift recovery so that he doesn’t miss too much of the final 13 games of the season.
