Confirmed – Sarah Harkes has left Celtic, Fran Alonso tells The Celtic Star | OneFootball

Amid all the squad changes at Celtic FC Women over the summer there’s been one loose end in the Celtic squad this season and that concerns the position of Sarah Harkes. The American midfielder whose brilliant assist won the Scottish Cup for Celtic at Tynecastle on 29 May, remains a squad member on the official Celtic website but has not featured in pre-season or the first two fixtures of the new SWPL1 campaign which saw Celtic beat Hibs (9-0) and Partick Thistle (2-0).

The Celtic Star asked Fran Alonso at the Celtic manager’s Media Conference this afternoon to clarify is Sarah Harkes (formerly Teegarden) was still a Celtic player or if she had left the club and the Celtic manager told us that Sarah is no longer at the club and that an official announcement is imminent.

Sarah Harkes made the news last season when scoring against Hibs on the same afternoon as her husband Ian Harkes scored for Dundee United against Celtic at Celtic Park, to become the first time a husband and wife had scored on the same day in matches involving Celtic!

The American midfielder had previously player her football in France before joining Celtic in January 2020 as the club embarked on the professional era. She started in both cup finals against Glasgow City last season and is credited with an assist on both winners.

Her brilliant delivery from a free-kick allowed Caitlin Hayes to head home the only goal of the League Cup Final at Firhill last December and her turn and perfected weighted through ball to Izzy Atkinson allowed the Irish winger, now at West Ham, to grab the glory and win the Scottish Cup final with a lovely finish which had shades of Tony Watt against Barcelona about it. It was a goal worth of winning any cup final and Sarah Harkes can leave Celtic proud of her performances and achievements wearing the Hoops.
