Liverpool aim to banish the demons of their Europa League humiliation by Atalanta when they welcome Crystal Palace to Anfield in the Premier League this afternoon.

The Reds have the chance to reclaim top spot in the division for a few hours at least if they can inflict defeat on the Eagles, who drew 1-1 in this fixture last season and were beaten by a stoppage time Harvey Elliott goal at Selhurst Park when the sides met earlier in the current campaign.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have three consecutive Premier League away games coming up in the space of seven days after today’s match, so nothing less than victory will do if they’re to have any realistic hopes of finishing ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal.

Liverpool can lay down a marker to the Gunners, who play later on Sunday, if they get the job done against Oliver Glasner’s side at Anfield in the 2pm kick-off.

Liverpool v Crystal Palace team news

Klopp was questioned in some quarters for fielding a much-changed line-up against Atalanta on Thursday, with his decision to start with the likes of Mo Salah, Luis Diaz, Dominik Szoboszlai and Andy Robertson on the bench backfiring as the Reds lost 3-0.

He’s made a few alterations again today, with five changes from the team which started that defeat.

Alisson Becker returns to the line-up after two months out through injury, and there’s two changes to the defence in front of him, with Conor Bradley and Robertson coming back into the starting XI in the full-back positions.

The midfield three remains unchanged from the defeat to Atalanta, with Salah and Diaz restored to the attack as Elliott and Cody Gakpo drop out.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota are among the substitutes once more, with Szoboszlai also remaining on the bench.
