Concern for Amorim: Ex-United scout is convinced ‘impactful’ star is now ‘questioning his future’

Given the current state of affairs at Old Trafford, you couldn’t blame a player for considering a move away this summer.

Ruben Amorim’s newly implemented system isn’t for everyone, and if he continues sticking to his guns, he’ll have to be adequately backed by INEOS when the window re-opens. Currently, the only player at his disposal who was signed to fit his setup is Patrick Dorgu, who’s generally impressed in the three appearances he’s made since his switch from Lecce.

In turn, outgoings will be critical. The likes of Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof, Tom Heaton and Jonny Evans will all be leaving for free when their contracts expire, while current strugglers – neither have scored in the Premier League since the turn of the year – Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho face uncertain futures.

The United faithful will be well aware that Garnacho was one of the major topics of the winter window due to the interest he garnered from Chelsea and Napoli, the latter being the only side to submit a formal bid.

As for Chelsea’s pursuit of the Argentine livewire, hailed as one of Amorim’s most ‘impactful’ wingers, reports have suggested they’ve ‘laid the groundwork’ for a potential deal at the end of the season after holding talks with the player and his entourage.

It remains to be seen where exactly Garnacho would fit in Enzo Maresca’s line-up, given the plethora of attacking options at Stamford Bridge. However, they’ll likely be able to offer some form of European football for 2025/2026, which may just turn his head.

Garnacho will certainly be mulling over his United future, says former scout

Weighing in on the youngster’s future, ex-chief United scout Mick Brown told Football Insider.

“Garnacho is going to start to question his future at Man United,” he began.

“There was a lot of talk about him possibly leaving in January, and now he’s struggling to start regular games under Amorim. He’s done very well up to a point, but he’s not got to show a level of consistency in his play. That’s what Ruben Amorim is looking for because there’s been a question mark over that.

“But he’s come off the bench and made a difference in every game he’s come on. He’s capable of performing against the best sides, so they should be working to get the best out of him, and that’s a job for the coaches and the manager. Somewhere down the line, it has to become clear about what his role is.

“If you keep leaving him out of the team, but he’s proving what he can do when he comes on, it’s no wonder he’s thinking about a move away. That’s a decision he’ll have to make for himself, though. Does he want to fight for his place at United, or will he go in search of better playing time somewhere else?

“I don’t think that interest from January has gone away, so I wouldn’t rule that out.”
