MIAMI, Florida – Things may change quickly in Concacaf, but one thing that remains the same is the excellence of GK Guillermo Ochoa.

After another superb year in 2022, the veteran Mexican shot-stopper has been nominated for the 2022 Concacaf Men’s Player of the Year Award.

At the international level, Ochoa once again shined bright on the biggest stage at the FIFA World Cup.

The 37-year-old conceded just three goals in Mexico’s three games and delivered one of the most memorable moments of the group stage when he saved Poland FW Robert Lewandowski’s penalty in the second half of their opening 0-0 draw.

Ochoa was selected as the Man of the Match for that clean sheet performance and became just the second Mexican GK to play in three different World Cups.

Ochoa is the most capped GK in the history of the Mexican National Team and is currently sixth on the all-time list of appearances with 134.

Ochoa also served as the GK in Mexico’s final six matches in Concacaf World Cup Qualifying for Qatar 2022, recording five clean sheets and allowing just one goal.

Overall, with El Tricolor in 2022, Ochoa appeared in 13 matches and kept eight clean sheets.

2022 was also another very good season for Ochoa at club level, playing the entire calendar year with Club America of Liga MX. With Las Aguilas, Ochoa appeared in 41 league matches and kept 14 clean sheets.

His top performances with both Mexico and Club America resulted in a return to one of the top leagues with Europe, as he joined Italian Serie A side Salernitana in December 2022.
