GUATEMALA CITY – Comunicaciones FC won 1-nil against Alianza FC in the 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup on Wednesday night at the Cementos Progreso Stadium in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
José Corena struck on goal for the home side in the 35’ but Alianza goalkeeper Mario González was there for the save.
Marvin Monterroza had an opportunity inside the box in the 40’ but was denied by Fredy Pérez.
Diego Casas had a header on goal in the 50’ but the match would remain scoreless.
Monterroza had a look from outside the box in the 65’ but the attempt ended at the hands of Pérez.
Monterroza had another hit on target in the 68’ but Pérez was wary of it.
Alianza were down to ten men in the 81’ following a second yellow card for Henry Romero.
Alejandro Henriquez struck the ball into his own net in the 83' following a Comunicaciones corner kick taken by Lynner García, for what proved to be the match-winning goal.
Fredy Pérez finished the night with three saves and his first clean sheet of the campaign.
With the result, Comunicaciones FC improved to four points to move into second place in Group B. The next encounter for the Guatemalan side will come on August 14 when it hosts Honduran club CD Marathón.
Alianza FC’s next opponent will be CD Luis Ángel Firpo on August 13 as both sides look for their first victory in the 2024 edition.
