Atletico Madrid and PSG are ready to rival Inter Milan and Juventus in the race to sign Jonathan David as the competition for the Lille star heats up.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They note that the Canadian could be the big free transfer of next summer.
It now looks abundantly clear that David will be leaving Lille next summer.
The 24-year-old has been at the Ligue 1 club since 2020. He won the title with them in the 2020-21 season.
There have been transfer links concerning David practically since he arrived at Lille.
However, in each of the past few summers, the Canadian international has stayed put.
But now, that means that David has remained at Lille right up to the final season of the contract he signed when he joined the club from Gent in the summer of 2020.
And there is no sign that David will sign a new deal with Lille.
Therefore, the Canadian should be available on a free transfer at the end of the current season.
The prospect of signing David for nothing will be an enticing one for plenty of European clubs.
The Canadian has been prolific for Lille. He has hit double digits for goals in each of his four seasons at the club so far. The last two were his most prolific.
And this time around David has already scored five goals in Ligue 1, and eight in all competitions.
There is plenty of interest from Serie A. Inter and Juventus are both keen.
The Nerazzurri’s interest in particular is hardly a surprise considering their propensity to pounce on free transfer opportunities.
Moreover, the fact that Marko Arnautovic and Joaquin Correa will likely leave Inter at the end of the season means that there should be a vacancy in attack.
But Inter would face stiff competition.
According to Tuttosport, Atletico Madrid are also eyeing a move for David up. And Paris Saint-Germain would also like to keep the Canadian in Ligue 1.
Then, Tuttosport note, there are also several teams from the Premier League considering a move.
