The North East trio of Sunderland, Newcastle United and Middlesbrough's squad market values compared.

Although it would be great to have all three North East clubs in the Premier League, Sunderland, Newcastle United and Middlesbrough are all in relatively strong positions.

While there is no doubting that Newcastle are streaks ahead of their North East rivals, it could not be long before Sunderland and Boro join them in the Premier League.

Given their geography, football fans will naturally compare the trio, and when it comes to each team's market value, the results are unsurprising.

Sunderland are currently fifth in the Championship table when it comes to market value, according to Transfermarkt.

The Wearsiders' team market value currently stands at €87.33m (£73.84m), which is less than Burnley, Leeds United, Luton Town and Sheffield United. Although it must be noted that all four have recent Premier League experience.

According to Transfermarkt, the club's most valuable players are Anthony Patterson and Jobe Bellingham, who are both valued at €12m (£10.15m). Both players have been linked with Premier League moves in the past but have remained on Wearside and their values will likely increase.

It must be noted that several of Sunderland's players are undervalued on the website, with Chris Rigg valued at €300,000 (£253,265) and Dan Ballard valued at €4m (£3.38m). Given the pair's potential, both would be sold for far greater figures than they are currently listed.

If the season progresses as it has, then Sunderland's team value will inevitably increase as they have a squad full of potential.

Newcastle United possess a Premier League squad with a serious valuation

Although Sunderland top the North East charts in terms of top flight titles, Newcastle unsurprisingly lead the way with the most valuable squad.

At a staggering €651.65m (£550.97m), the Magpies boast the most valuable squad in the North East by quite some distance. At a value of €85m (£71.87m), captain Bruno Guimaraes is worth almost the same amount as the entirety of Sunderland's squad.

Indeed, the Tynesiders sit seventh in the Premier League in terms of squad value, behind Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Along with Guimaraes, Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon are among Newcastle's most prized assets, valued at €75m (£63.44) and €60m (£50.75m) respectively. However, if both were sold then the fees would surely push £100m.

Since Newcastle's change in ownership, it is of no surprise that their squad value is so high, and if there were no financial restrictions in place, then it would be even more astronomical.

Considering Middlesbrough's form over the last three seasons, it is not surprising that they possess the sixth most valuable squad in the Championship.

Under Michael Carrick, the Teeside outfit have assembled a strong squad in the division and several of their prized assets have attracted Premier League attention, with Hayden Hackney and Emmanuel Latte Lath the subjects of interest.

With a squad value of €75.8m (£64.12), they sit narrowly behind their North East rivals, Sunderland, but are considerably adrift of Newcastle's valuation.

Middlesbrough's most valuable asset is currently Ben Doak, who is valued at €10m (£8.46). However, it must be highlighted that the winger is on loan from Liverpool, meaning their squad value is somewhat misleading.

Of their own players, Hackney and Finn Azaz lead the way as Boro's most valuable assets at €7m (£5.92) and €5m (£4.23) respectively. Similarly to Rigg and Ballard, Boro would surely demand a higher fee for Hackney, who has been linked with Manchester United, as per Spanish outlet, Fichajes.

While the North East duo of Sunderland and Middlesbrough are aiming for promotion from the Championship, Newcastle are aiming for the Champions League places in the Premier League.

With all three teams aiming for the top of their respective tables, it might not be long before the trio compete against each other on the pitch.
