Comparing Haaland’s hat-trick record to Premier League greats

Article image:Comparing Haaland’s hat-trick record to Premier League greats

Erling Haaland headed into the international break with yet another Premier League match ball, having scored his second hat-trick of the season at West Ham.

Haaland’s haul made it back-to-back trebles for the Norwegian and EIGHT league hat-tricks since arriving at Manchester City. Just three players have ever scored more Premier League hat-tricks than the 24-year-old, while his hat-trick per game record is incomparable.

Here is how the Norwegian compares to some of the most prolific hat-trick scorers in Premier League history.

Leading Premier League hat-trick scorers and their per game average

5. Harry Kane – 40 games per hat-trick

Harry Kane sits second among the Premier League’s leading scorers after netting 213 times in the top-flight for Tottenham Hotspur. He edges out the man above him on that list, Alan Shearer (40.1), for hat-tricks per game, however, having recorded a treble every 40 games in the division.

Kane became the first player to score hat-tricks in consecutive games twice, a feat Haaland matched last weekend. Those back-to-back trebles included seven goals scored over clashes with Leicester and Hull in the final two games of the 2016/17 season, as Kane surged past Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to claim the Golden Boot.

4. Thierry Henry – 32.3 games per hat-trick

Thierry Henry has won the Premier League’s Golden Boot more than any other player (4) and averaged a Premier League hat-trick every 32.3 games.

Henry’s finest treble came against Liverpool in the 2003/04 season, as he scored three times to help Arsenal to a come-from-behind win and preserve their unbeaten run. It was a defining moment in the club’s title success, secured without losing a Premier League game.

3.  Sergio Aguero – 22.9 games per hat-trick

No player has scored more Premier League hat-tricks than Sergio Aguero, who scored 12 trebles during a record-breaking decade at Manchester City.

Aguero became the highest-scoring overseas player in Premier League history, with his goals propelling the Citizens to a wealth of honours. He is one of five players to have scored FIVE goals in a Premier League game, achieving the feat against Newcastle in 2015.

2. Luis Suarez – 18.3 games per hat-trick

Luis Suarez scored 69 goals in just 110 league games for Liverpool, a return that included six Premier League hat-tricks.

The Uruguayan averaged a treble every 18.3 games during a prolific period at Anfield and, incredibly, scored three of his hat-tricks against the same opponents.

Norwich City were delighted when “El Pistolero” packed his bags for Barcelona in 2014.

1. Erling Haaland – 8.6 games per hat-trick

Erling Haaland’s goalscoring feats are becoming absurd with his latest treble taking him to 70 goals in just 69 appearances in England’s top flight.

He’s scored eight hat-tricks in the Premier League in a little more than two seasons, averaging a hat-trick every 8.6 games. At his current rate, Haaland will pass Sergio Aguero’s record for the most ever Premier League trebles before the end of the current campaign.

This is goalscoring greatness.
