Article image:Como vs. Inter | The complete guide

On Friday 23 May at 20:45 CEST, Inter will play their 38th, and final, league game of the season. Simone Inzaghi's side will head to Como to round of their domestic year. The Nerazzurri will head into the game in second place on 78 points (just one point behind Napoli) and with the league's best attacking record on 77 goals. In the reverse fixture, Inter won 2-0 at San Siro thanks to goals from Carlos Augusto and Thuram.

FIXTURE HISTORY

Como and Inter will face off again in Serie A to add to their 27 meetings in the history of the competition. The balance swings in the Nerazzurri's favour, leading with 18 wins to Como's six, with three draws in total. Inter have been particularly dominant most recently: eight consecutive wins against Como in Serie A, conceding only two goals in that time. At the Sinigaglia, the Nerazzurri have scored in each of their last four away games against Como.

THE NERAZZURRI'S STATS

Inter's season was built on the small details. Above all, we've been strong from set pieces: 25 goals from dead balls this season, more than any other side in Europe's top five leagues. Physicality, quality and organisation: Inter are the team with the highest percentage of duels won in Serie A this season (53.2%), confirming their supremacy in individual battles. Inzaghi's side have scored 112 goals this season in all competitions: it is the second best attacking record in Inter history, only behind our record in the 2019/20 season (113). The Nerazzurri have also been lethal in the air: 15 headers scored, the best of any side in Europe's top five leagues. Inter are also formidable when dribbling in attacking areas: 11 goals have come from a move inside the opposition's box, only Barcelona (15) and Marseille (12) have a better record in the Top 5.

BASTONI AND DUMFRIES' NUMBERS

The silent rearguard director. Alessandro has made 204 drives with the ball between five and ten metres in length, the first in Serie A for this statistic. Only three defenders have touched the ball more than the Nerazzurri's number 95 (2507): Rrahmani, Ndicka and Di Lorenzo. They are numbers of a leader.

Denzel Dumfries' has been a true standout this season: 11 goals and five assists in all competitions. The last defender with a better record than him was Robin Gosens in 2020/21 (12 goals). The Dutchman is always a great option down the right wing.

TIKUS, THE FOX IN THE BOX

Numbers, assured and always lethal in the area. This season Marcus Thuram has scored 14 goals in 32 appearances, all from inside the area: no player in the league with 100% of their goals in the area has scored more. Fourteen goals means he has set a new personal record in Europe's top five leagues, and he could reach another milestone: with one more goal, Marcus could become the first French player to reach 15 goals in an Inter shirt in a single Serie A season. The only Frenchman to get close was Youri Djorkaeff in 1996/97, on 14.

CARLOS AUGUSTO'S RECORD

After scoring against Como in the reverse leg, the Brazilian has scored two goals away from home in the league this year, equalling his personal record in Serie A (Monza 2022/23). He is a thorn in the side for any defence.

THE OPPOSITION: COMO

Como, under Cesc Fabregas, have made a great return to Serie A having already mathematically secured tenth place. At the moment, they are on 49 points (13 wins and ten draws). In their last five league games, Como have earned four wins against Lecce, Genoa, Parma and Cagliari, whereas in their match last Sunday, they draw 1-1 away to Hellas Verona. Their top goal scorer in the league is Diao on eight goals. Fabregas will likely field a 4-2-3-1 with Butez in goal, then Vojvoda, Engelhardt, Kempf and Valle in defence, Perrone and Da Cunha in the middle, with Caqueret, Nico Paz and Strefezza supporting Douvikas.
