Como’s head coach, Cesc Fabregas, has explained his decision to turn down an approach from Inter Milan earlier this summer.
During a recent interview via FCInterNews, the Spaniard reiterated his commitment to Como’s project.
Inter parted company with Simone Inzaghi at the end of the European club season.
Despite the club’s best effort to keep him at San Siro, the 49-year-old chose Al-Hilal’s lucrative offer.
And with the 2025 FIFA World Cup around the corner, the Nerazzurri had little time to find a replacement.
Cesc Fabregas had been the club’s first choice.
Indeed, the 38-year-old has become one of Europe’s most exciting young coaches after just one year at Como.
Fabregas helped the Lariani secure Serie A survival in their first season back in the top flight in 20 years.
However, the former Arsenal manager rejected the Nerazzurri out of loyalty to Como.
Therefore, Inter turned to Cristian Chivu.

“I’m very happy here,” he admitted.
“I’ve said that to the club from day one, and I believe I’ve always been very honest. I listened to people – not just with the idea of leaving.”
Then, he confirmed he never second-guessed his decision to stay at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia.
“I’m very curious and sincere. I never had any doubts. And I’m very close to the president and sporting director Carlalberto Ludi.
“I signed a four-year contract, and you do not do that unless you believe in a solid project.”
Fabregas’ rejection was a bitter pill to swallow. Yet, Inter reacted quickly to sign Chivu.
The 44-year-old failed to impress at the Club World Cup, as Inter crashed out in the opening knockout round.
However, the Romanian has plenty of time to prepare his team for the new season.
Indeed, the squad will start preparing for the upcoming campaign tomorrow.
