Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso released a statement this evening warning some of their fans ‘risk ruining the image’ of the club with their actions against St. Gallen.

The Conference League match on Thursday evening in Switzerland had to be interrupted several times by the referee because a small group of Viola ultras behind one of the goals repeatedly threw flares and fireworks onto the pitch.

Captain Cristiano Biraghi had to eventually go over and warn them to stop, otherwise the fixture could be abandoned and the points given to the other team.

Fiorentina eventually emerged 4-2 winners after a tough game, but the club is waiting to hear how UEFA will punish them for this behaviour.

With that in mind, President Commisso released a statement on the official club website this evening.

“Florence is a marvellous city, recognised all over the world for its art and beauty. The unique passion of Florentines and the Viola fans is an extraordinary value appreciated all over the world.

“The warmth of our Curva fills me with emotion every time the team takes to the field, every time I go to salute our fans. This is how I would like the passion of the Florentines for the Viola jersey to be identified.

“Thursday’s incidents risk ruining this image thanks to the irresponsible behaviour of a few who not just damaged Fiorentina, but also what Florence represents in Italy, in Europe and in the world.

“I hope these incidents do not happen again and, with this hope, we will face Roma tomorrow. The Viola fans must continue to raise its colours and raise its voice high in every stadium. United, together, we can face any opponent.

“Always Forza Viola.”

Fiorentina reached the Final of the Conference League for two years in a row, losing on both occasions, and currently have a 100 per cent record after two games this season too.
