América have failed in their bid to have the suspension of Sebastián Cáceres lifted ahead of Saturday’s Clásico Nacional against Chivas.
The centre-back was cautioned twice in the 3-1 defeat at Toluca on Saturday.
His first booking came for a foul in midfield in the 79th minute and then five minutes later he was censured again after an unintentional hand ball in his own area led to a penalty for the hosts.
The Azulcrema felt the decision of referee Jorge Isaac Rojas to issue the second yellow was unwarranted, and thus lodged an appeal on that basis.
However the Arbitration Commission of the Mexican Football Federation upheld the red card and the suspension.
In a statememt, it said: “In relation to the investigation request for a possible manifest error of the referee, presented by Club América, once the investigation related to the expulsion of player Sebastián Enzo Cáceres Ramos corresponding to Day 9 of the #GritaMéxico A21 Tournament of LIGA MX disputed between the Toluca vs América clubs and after having analyzed the corresponding play, as well as assessed the evidence and other documents provided, this commission determines that said request is not appropriate, so the player will not be able to participate with his club in the next day of the contest.”
The ban will further disrupt the Uruguay U-23 international’s season after he missed three league games recently with a muscle injury.
