  • Norwich City's Adam Idah has made a strong impact at Celtic, recording two goals and an assist in his first three games.
  • Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers believes Idah has the potential to reach the highest level and can help him develop into a top player.
  • Norwich could benefit from selling Idah for a reported £3 million, using the funds to improve other areas of the squad and increase their promotion chances.

Norwich City will be looking to maintain a promotion charge as they chase a return to the Premier League at the second time of asking.

The Canaries had a bitterly disappointing last campaign under David Wagner, slumping to a 13th placed finish under the former Huddersfield Town coach.

In order to bolster their promotion chances this campaign, the East Anglian outfit recruited 11 new faces to Carrow Road this season, but also signed off a host of departures in order to balance the books.

One player who departed during the January transfer window was forward Adam Idah, who completed a loan switch to Scottish giants Celtic.

After making a productive start to his spell with the Hoops, it already appears Norwich could profit off a permanent switch in the summer, with Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers likening Idah to some Premier League icons he’s previously managed.

The Republic of Ireland international has hit the ground running at Celtic Park since moving to Scotland in the new year.

Idah would make his debut for the club at the beginning of February against Aberdeen, registering an assist in a 31-minute appearance off the bench.

Five days later, he would go on to grab his first goals for Celtic by notching a brace on his first full start away at Hibernian, helping the side to a 2-1 victory.

The 23-year-old would also get his first taste of Scottish FA Cup football, playing 62 minutes in a 2-0 fifth round victory over St. Mirren.

Celtic manager Rodgers believes he can help Idah reach the top of his game in his time with the Hoops, comparing his previous experiences of improving the likes of Luis Suárez, Jamie Vardy, Danny Graham and Moussa Dembele.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Rodgers said: “I had already seen him live in the Premier League with Norwich and saw a young player with real potential. Being Irish, obviously that caught my eye as well. It just hasn’t quite worked out for him yet. But when you see someone with that physicality, speed and technique, it excites you. And you saw on Wednesday night how he took those two penalties. It was with authority and composure. When I see all of that, it’s always exciting. He’s got all the tools there.

“It’s now about trying to give him the mentality you need to be a top player. People will ask me, how far can he go? Well, he has the talent to go to the very highest level. But it’s about what he does with it. The way my teams play, in an attacking and aggressive way, wingers and strikers should benefit from the way I work. If you go through my career, look at (Danny) Graham who did great for me at Swansea.

“People questioned whether he could do it in the Premier League – but he did.

"When I went to Liverpool, they said Suarez didn’t score enough goals. And then he finished two seasons with 30-plus by narrowing his game. He’s spoken publicly about the work I did with him. Coming to Celtic, we also had good strikers like Dembele.

“Whatever position it is, it’s about the talent they’ve got. If the player shows me he cares and wants to do it, I can maximise a lot from them. Whether they’re 22 or even 32, like Jamie Vardy at Leicester. When I went in there, he eventually won the Golden Boot as the oldest player to do it. So, it’s about if they want to improve. I’ll create the environment to help them do that.”

Norwich City set to profit from Adam Idah sale

If Idah can maintain his regular goalscoring form for Celtic and continue to impress Rodgers, then a permanent transfer could be on the cards, with the Irish Daily Mirror reporting a £3 million fee should be enough to prize Idah away from the Canaries.

Norwich boasts a number of forwards despite Idah’s departure, with Ashley Barnes and Sydney van Hooijdonk options as well as Josh Sargent, with the American scoring four goals in his last seven games since returning from an ankle injury.

As Norwich possess dangerous firepower in the second-tier, any potential sale of Idah would help provide the club with much-needed funds to improve other key areas of the squad next season, increasing their chances of promotion if they fail to secure a return to the top-flight this term.

The best decision for Norwich is to let Idah continue to develop his career at another club and use the sale to help benefit the Canaries for the long-term future, depending on the incoming money being spent shrewdly.
