Coman-” I get a bit frightened of heading the ball” | OneFootball

The France international has revealed that scoring with his head is not something that is natural for him.

Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman has told Bild that his team-mates often joke around with him about his reluctance to head the ball in training.

Coman, who is still only 24-years-old scored the winner in the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain back in August has revealed that sometimes he has to close his eyes when going up for a header.

“It’s just the way it is that I get a bit frightened of heading the ball, and my team-mates make fun of me over it,” Coman said.

“You can see it in the pictures. I closed my eyes for the header. It’s instinctive – a natural reflex. I always try to keep my eyes open, but at the last moment I always have this reflex.”

Aside from his goal in the Champions League Final, Coman has not been the most consistent winger in the game. In 2018/19 Coman managed to score 10 goals for the season, it is the only time he has reached that mark in his career. However this season the French international is already up to five and looks poised to surpass his best tally.

Coman also revealed that he is probably never going to be a prolific player when it comes to goals, however, it is one area that he would like to improve in his game.

The France international spoke with Le Parisien back in 2019:

“I don’t think I’ll ever be someone to score 30, 40 or 50 goals in a season. This instinct to be a killer in front of goal, it’s not natural to me, even if I work for it.

“I love creating goals. But I know that scoring is very important. So I’m strict with myself and I try to be more egotistical.”

Bayern plays Mainz on Sunday after they return from their winter break and will look to continue their dominance after back to back wins over table-toppers Wolfsburg and then Bayer Leverkusen to storm to the top of the Bundesliga table.
