Columbus came out of the blocks firing, and they got the chance to find the opening goal just past the half-hour mark when the ball deflected off of an LAFC player’s hand in the box.

The resulting spot-kick was dispatched by Cucho Hernández to send the home crowd frenzy.

Those celebrations were amplified just four minutes later when Malte Amundsen picked out a superb ball to Yaw Yeboah, who slid home to double the lead.

LAFC appeared to wake up at halftime, pouring the pressure on the home side in search of a way back into the game. And in the final 20 minutes, they found it.

After some chaos in front of goal, Denis Bouanga pounced to fire home and cut the Columbus lead in half.

Fortunately for the home faithful, it was too little, too late from LAFC. While the visitors carved out a few chances in the dying minutes, the Crew held on to snatch the victory, and add a third MLS Cup trophy to their cabinet.
