Orlando City took the lead on the road twice but Columbus battled back for a win at home.
The Lions signaled their attacking intent from the outset when Yoshimar Yotún fired a shot off the post in the second minute. That signal continued until Orlando took the lead in the 16th minute from the foot of Sacha Kljestan.
The visitors carried their advantage into half-time but Columbus came out of the intermission raring to go. Gyasi Zardes knotted the game in the 51st minute after strong wing-play from Niko Hansen.
Just seven minutes later, after sustained pressure by the home side, Orlando hit on the break. StÊfano Pinho tapped home the brilliant set-up pass by Kljestan.
R.J. Allen conceded a foul in the box late and Zardes stepped up to the spot to convert the penalty for his second equalizer of the night. With momentum in favour of the hosts, team captain Wil Trapp came up with a piece of magic to clinch three points.
Trappâs stoppage-time rocket gave Columbus their first lead in the dying moments of the game.
Orlando may feel as though they had the match sealed up at 2-1 but James OâConnorâs team lacked the resolve to defend their lead.
The Crew got strong performances from key players to win for just their second time in the last nine MLS matches.
