That’s it for the World Cup round of 16 — we officially have our final eight with Colombia and France taking the last two spots.

The French, who were tipped by many to breeze through the competition so far, enjoyed a 4-0 win over debutants Morocco. Meanwhile, Colombia continue to stun the tournament as they prepare for their first ever World Cup quarter-finals.

Colombia 1-0 Jamaica

Securing a slender 1-0 victory, Colombia have banked their spot in the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time in their history.

A nervy first half saw the two sides go in level at the break, with neither team able to take control of the tie. A goal from Catalina Usme early in the second half gave Colombia the crucial opener. Despite having a strong attacking lineup, the Reggae Girlz were unable to test Catalina Pérez and her defence for much of the game.

With The Powerpuff Girls holding firm, Jamaica were unable to find an equaliser to salvage their World Cup dreams. The victory sees Nelson Abadia’s side through to their first World Cup quarter-finals. Facing a meeting with Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses, Colombia will look to improve their finishing accuracy ahead of the tie. With England struggling however to get past Nigeria, Abadia’s side may begin to see a route to the last four of the competition opening up.

Morocco 0-4 France

In a dominant display, France cruised past Morocco to secure the last quarter-final spot. Goal contributions from Kadidiatou Diani, Kenza Dali and Eugenie Le Sommer saw Les Bleues comfortably through into the final eight.

France will face co-hosts Australia in the quarter-finals, with the winner taking on either England or Colombia. With Herve Renard‘s side converting four of their five chances, France‘s clinical edge in front of goal will be a huge asset as they face the Matildas. For Morocco, their maiden World Cup has drawn to a close. Reaching the final 16, the debutants have enjoyed a campaign to be proud of.
