Everton will face off against Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium this Saturday afternoon as they try to secure a good result on the road. The Toffees managed to earn an impressive 1-0 over West Ham United before the international break which will give them some confidence ahead of this clash on the south coast of England.

Frank Lampard will probably opt for a 4-3-3 formation and could make one change to his first team for this game. Seamus Coleman will play from the start in the injury absence of Nathan Patterson who recently picked up an ankle problem.

Defence

Asmir Begovic will function in goal for the Merseyside club after he kept a clean sheet versus the Hammers in his last league appearance. Conor Coady will once again lineup alongside James Tarkowski at the centre of Everton’s backline as they look to keep a solid defensive shape at the back this weekend.

Seamus Coleman will function at right-back while Vitaliy Mykolenko hopes to give a good account of himself as the left-back. Both of them need to be at their best so that they can restrict the opposition from creating too many chances out on the wide areas.

Michael Keane will be available for selection on the bench as he provides cover for the defensive positions.

Midfield

Alex Iwobi, Marc Gueyi and Amadou Onana will make up Everton’s midfield as they focus on winning the 50-50 battles at the centre of the park and engineering some decent chances in the final third.

Gueyi will be responsible for offering decent protection for his teammates at the back while both Iwobi and Onana look to get forward in support of the front players.

Abdoulaye Doucoure will have to be content with a place on the bench as he awaits his opportunity to shine in the second 45 minutes if needed.

Attack

Demarai Gray will function as the left-sided wide player while Anthony Gordon hopes to put in a productive performance from the right wing.

Neal Maupay could get another chance to lead the charge for the Toffees in the final third. The French striker scored the match-winning goal versus West Ham which will give him a lot of confidence going into this contest away from home.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a significant concern for this game and will be in a race against time to be fit for this weekend’s encounter at St. Mary’s Stadium.
