Cole Palmer was rewarded this week for his fine form at club level with a first senior call-up to the England national team.

The 21-year-old has scored four times in the Premier League for Chelsea this season, the most recent being his penalty to salvage a 4-4 draw against former club Manchester City on Sunday.

Having previously represented the Three Lions at every youth level up to the U21s, Palmer has been drafted into Gareth Southgateā€™s senior squad alongside Rico Lewis and Ezri Konsa, following the withdrawals of James Maddison, Lewis Dunk and Callum Wilson.

And on Tuesday, England released a clip of Palmer telling Chelsea team-mate Conor Gallagher that he thought someone was winding him up when he got the call-up.

It seems he got the call right after Sundayā€™s game, and it will be interesting to see if he gets a run out against Malta or North Macedonia, with England having already qualified for Euro 2024.
