The general consensus seems to be that Stefano Pioli is nearing the end of his time at AC Milan and names continue to emerge that could potentially replace him.

After the final whistle in Roma-Milan, Pioli’s future became the hottest topic. The two defeats against the Giallorossi and the consequent elimination in the quarter-finals of the Europa League wiped out the seven consecutive wins and ended the rumours of his stay.

According to Calciomercato.it, the management group of owner Gerry Cardinale, senior advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the directors are now sorting through a list of candidates to lead a new era at Milan, but it is difficult to reach a unanimous agreement.

It seems as though the next manager is likely to come from outside Italy and the name of Julen Lopetegui emerged, but he did not receive one hundred percent of the votes in his favour among the leaders.

There is however an interest in Manuel Pellegrini. The former Real Madrid and Manchester City manager has a highly respectable international pedigree and in his experience at Real Betis he has demonstrated his ability to create the right mix between experienced players and new recruits.

He has been linked with the Roma job too but now they are likely to extend Daniele De Rossi’s deal. Pellegrini’s contract with the Andalusian club runs until 2026, but the Chilean coach also has a release clause in his contract .

Pellegrini has been in charge of Betis for 191 games, winning 91 of them with 45 draws and 55 defeats. He has won the Premier League with Manchester City and the Copa del Rey with Real Betis.
